The present rural village of Adaminaby resulted from the damming of the Eucumbene River to form Lake Eucumbene, part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. The original township, now under water, was relocated before the surrounding valleys were flooded. Many buildings were dismantled and re-erected at new Adaminaby.
Adaminaby’s proximity to Selwyn Snowfields makes it a great location for skiers in winter. During summer, it offers fantastic fishing, water sports, bushwalking and horse riding.

- Adaminaby has stores for purchasing groceries, souvenirs, etc.
- There are 2 Petrol Stations.
- For skiers and snowboarders there are good ski hire shops at Adaminaby that all offer great gear.
- The famous "Snow Goose Hotel" - Adaminaby's Pub.
- The Adaminaby Sports and Bowling Club offers great meals and a great night out.
- The Adaminaby Races are on the last Saturday of November. A great day for the whole family.
- For summer holiday makers, there is a public swimming pool or, of course, there is Lake Eucumbene and the Murrumbidgee River.
For the fishermen, Adaminaby has a great fishing tackle shop that specialises in trout fishing in the Snowy Mountains, so there is no need to purchase additional gear before coming. Local bait is nearly always available.
